Chiku keeps your fridge on your phone. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We do not have a server that holds your food, your photos, or your notes.
what stays on your device
Everything you put into Chiku lives in the app on your phone and is never sent to us:
- the items you add, and the dates you choose for them
- your notes and plans
- photos you attach to an item
- your history of what got used and what got away
- your settings, including reminder times
Because it is on your device, deleting the app deletes this information. We cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.
no account, ever
Chiku has no sign up. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or a password, so we do not have them.
no analytics, no advertising, no tracking
Chiku contains no analytics tools and no advertising tools. There are no third party trackers in the app. We do not build a profile of you, we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not show ads.
Apart from the store check described below, the app makes no network connections at all. The artwork, the sounds and the typefaces are built into the app itself, so nothing else in Chiku contacts any server.
Under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, we do not sell or share personal information for cross context behavioural advertising.
the one exception: the store
Chiku has one optional purchase, the detective’s kit, and the purchase itself is handled by Apple or Google. To show you real prices and to know whether the kit is already yours, Chiku talks to the store through a service called RevenueCat. This happens when the app opens, whether or not you ever buy anything.
What RevenueCat receives is a randomly generated identifier that means nothing outside this app, and, if you buy, the record of that purchase. It does not receive your name, your email address, or anything about your food, because the app does not have those things to send.
We use this only to show prices and to unlock what you paid for. It is not used for advertising or tracking. RevenueCat’s own privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
household sharing
If you share a household list, Chiku creates a file and hands it to whatever you choose, such as Messages or AirDrop. The file goes directly from your phone to theirs. It does not pass through us.
notifications
Chiku’s reminders are created and scheduled on your own device. They are not sent from a server, so no reminder ever leaves your phone.
children
Chiku is made for adults running a kitchen and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because we do not collect personal information at all.
your rights
Since your information stays on your device, you already have complete control of it. You can edit or delete any item at any time, and deleting the app removes everything. There is no data of yours for us to hand over or delete on request, because we do not hold any.
this website
chikudetective.org is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and contains no trackers. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google’s servers when the page loads; Google’s privacy policy applies to that request. The site is hosted on Netlify, which, like any web host, keeps standard server logs.
changes
If this ever changes, we will update this page and the date at the top on the same day the change ships. We would rather be plain than flattering.
