What is Chiku: Food Game?
Chiku: Food Game is a cozy pixel game about food from everywhere. A child shops at a market, keeps foods in a small fridge and cooks dishes from around the world, with chiku the dog showing the way. It is made by Reweave, a nonprofit.
Who is it for?
Children and grown ups. On Google Play it is for ages 6 and over. Every player is treated as a child: there is no account, there are no ads, and a grown up door stands before any purchase, link out or the real fridge.
Is it free?
The fruit and vegetable stalls are free, and so is the rest of the day: the fridge, the kitchen, the words and the book. The other three stalls open with the kitchen pass, one optional purchase for grown ups.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign up, no email and no password. Open the game and chiku is there.
Where is the game saved?
On your phone. There is no server holding the game, and this website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Purchases are handled by the app store through RevenueCat, and the privacy page says exactly what that involves. Deleting the app deletes the game.
What is the grown up door?
A small question for grown ups, a times table in words. It stands before every purchase, every link out, the grown up corner and the real fridge, and it is asked again each time.
What is the kitchen pass?
One optional purchase, behind the grown up door. It opens the stalls for roots, herbs and spices, and grains, beans and nuts, and what comes later. It is bought through the app store, and restoring an earlier purchase is in the same place.
What is the real fridge?
A corner for grown ups, behind the grown up door. Type the date printed on a packet and chiku counts to it. chiku never says whether food can be eaten, how to store it, or when it turns. That call is always yours.
Does chiku say what is good or bad to eat?
No. No food is ever judged in the game. We cannot answer questions about food safety, health or what a pet can eat, so please ask a doctor or a vet.
What does a child learn?
Without being told: to plan a meal before shopping, to take home only what fits, to use what is in the fridge first, how a few foods become a dish, where foods grow and what they are called around the world, and how to spell them.
Are there ads?
No, ever.
Can I suggest a food?
Yes. In the grown up corner, behind the grown up door, there is a way to suggest a food for the game by email.
Is it on iPhone and Android?
Yes, on the App Store and on Google Play.
